The upcoming Burberry September 2017 Show

Over the last couple of weeks, Burberry has dropped hints regarding its upcoming September 2017 show. No longer tied down by seasons, the label continues its move to make fashion exciting again with its 'see now buy now' strategy. Burberry has always had a close connection to the arts with its aristocratic image, celebrating writers, poets, classical musicians and artists in its more recent collections. Therefore, it is only appropriate that the upcoming collection will be shown alongside a carefully curated exhibition of photographs courtesy of the one and only Mr Christopher Bailey.

The location of choice, Old Sessions House references the upcoming theme of the new collection. The label's promotional images uploaded to its Instagram this week clearly reminds us of of its heritage and brand history. The new season looks to pay homage to why Burberry became an icon in the 90s to 00s with flashes of its more vintage checks in darker colours. The age of minimalism is over and Burberry pioneers in this logomania without actual logos per se.

It is not necessarily an unexpected move since it's partnership with Gosha Rubchinsky's collection earlier this year which was also influenced by the lad culture of Burberry, significant to its history. Fashion's re-appropriation of the British working class is now in full-swing. Rather than rejecting the past, Burberry is embracing it and transforming it, with new materials and tones on its nostalgic and loud patterns.

With all that in mind however, I loved the Burberry Beasts collection earlier this year which created new and exciting motifs for the brand. Since then, with a brand restructure and a new direction, it will be interesting to see how Burberry's post-2006 customers (me included) will feel about this dose of nostalgia. Ready for a brand new old session?

Chanel 'Gabrielle' Launch × Thirty-Second David Jones Spring Flower Show

In welcoming spring, David Jones Sydney held their annual flower show on the last week of August. The exclusive card-member only preview of the gorgeous arrangement of fresh flowers doubled as the launch of a new Chanel fragrance for women, Gabrielle. The ground floor of Sydney's Elizabeth Street store was in bloom thanks to 10,000 hours of work and over 150,000 fresh flowers.

Gabrielle by Chanel is about freedom and destiny. As Mademoiselle would say, "I decided who I wanted to be, and that is who I am". The House of Chanel has always been a symbol of freedom, desire and illusion. The fragrance captures the essence of an imagined flower of radiance. It is created with an extraction of the beautiful and signature flower of Jasmine by Chanel along with Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blossom and Grasse Tuberose. A fitting launch in spring, Gabrielle is a sparkling floral scent which exudes confidence, sophistication and desire.

The event was impeccably presented with the most vibrant and sophisticated floral installations in store and in David Jones' iconic interactive windows. I can't wait for next year!

Style Update | Stella McCartney's First Menswear Collection

So it has been a while since this collection came out. The celebrated designer has a strong foothold in womenswear but how will her take on men's fashion be?

The collection has heavy influences of art. The embroidered pieces quickly establish a timeless motif for this line. Further, the line's modern interpretation of traditional shirts elevate it at the forefront of men's fashion. The best part of this collection is perhaps in its cutting. The modest and tailored cut is what the industry has been craving. Consumers are a little sick of items which are too slim, and trends have shifted towards more relaxed yet tailored silhouettes. It's a less polished type of luxe - artistic but a little bit more raw and real.
