The Op Shop Diaries - Leather Jacket

24 July 2013

I don't exactly remember when I bought this jacket but I deduced that it was more than 4 weeks ago and I knew it was a Wednesday so I guess that's the date. Woah, it's already been 4 weeks. Oh that's right, its the end of Week 4 at uni. Yeah mid sessions and quizzes are approaching me fast.

Anyway, I got this at Paddington St. Vincent de Paul and there were quite a few good things there. I was at Paddington because I was running all around Sydney trying to find 110 mm film for the Agfamatic 2008 Camera... found nothing except at Blender Gallery and then later at MCA. I think op-shopping at Paddington and finding something that was pretty nice got me into op-shopping.

Alongside this jacket I saw an Industrie leather jacket for $35 (I think) but it had cigarette stains or mould at the back or something and the zipper didn't work (I probably wouldn't zip it anyway). It was gone when I went today to develop the film, so someone probably knew what to do with it. Leather jackets are really cool cos they can be worn in a very structured or very unstructured way. On the same day I splurged on 'that' Pierre Balmain leather jacket. So I guess I didn't really thrift at all, taking the day as a whole.

Isn't my bathroom beautiful?

The Cologne Diaries - Spicebomb (Viktor & Rolf) Review

10 August 2013

I was always interested in Spicebomb because of:
1. The bottle design
2. The marketing campaigns and etc.
3. The unique scent.

When I tested it in stores it always felt too different for everyday wear. I love the cinnamon smell but I always thought that it was too strong. But after wanting it for months I got it early this month and wore it today. It's actually sooooooo gggooooooddddd. I'm not exaggerating or kidding at all. I love the uniqueness of the smell now and it isn't overpowering at all or weird, after wearing it the whole day.

The musky-ness is great for winter and I basically recommended it to everyone I saw today. Now the grenade style bottle design is just icing on the cake. A cinnamon cake.

Actually it's like chai latte. I smelled like chai latte. No wait, that sounds bad.. but trust me it's really good. Ok I'll stop now.

LOOKBOOK | Bone City

LOOKBOOK LINK: Bone City

Uni is super hectic with readings and heavy subjects and everything due in a few weeks. So I haven't been on the internet as often as I would like to. Plus I've been organising my time between work, study, uni, friends and family quite inefficiently. But I know it'll get better after this month once one of my subjects is finished :)

Paul Smith White Shirt
Dolce & Gabbana Diamond Cardigan
Tarocash Tie
Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Messenger
DIESEL DZ7356 Watch
Brown Hemp Bracelet
Bally Belt
Cheap Monday Black Skinny Jeans
Clarks Brown Suede Boots

On another note, I will try and post more and more with denim jeans. I've wanted a pair of nice blue jeans for so long and finally found one in the break (but the waist is too big). Oh well, until I find a better one this one will do.

Ok my hair was really short in this but it's grown a lot now so I look normal. Anyway, more photos and edits here. It was a great day shooting. It's scary but really fun shooting in public. People stare at you and take pictures of someone taking pictures of you on the streets. It was really embarrassing because the photographer had full lighting equipment out and everything but it was one of the most fun things ever.

Chicken or the Egg?

I want to address this question here instead of writing a thesis and research paper upon graduation. Did the chicken or the egg come first? My judgment is as follows. It depends what sort of egg is being contemplated - if it is just any egg then dinosaur eggs came before the chicken so the answer is egg. But if it's the chicken egg, the chicken came first as 'chicken' is the adjective of a chicken egg, therefore, an egg is just an egg until a chicken comes into existence and can be an adjective for the egg.

A 'chicken egg' may be interpreted in two ways. An egg containing a chicken or an egg laid by a chicken. I do not believe the former can be a correct interpretation because that would disqualify an unfertilised egg laid by a chicken as not a chicken egg (since there is no chick or chicken inside). However, this is what some people have in their fridge. If the egg is interpreted as an egg with the potential to develop into a chicken, it can also not be entirely correct as during evolution, there was a multitude of possibilities which the contents of an egg could have mutated into what we know as chickens. This meant that a vast selection of eggs which had the potential to mutate in such a way were chicken eggs. This is against contemporary understandings of what is known as a 'chicken egg'.

Thus, it is the latter, where an egg is a chicken egg because it is laid by a chicken. Thus, the chicken must come first. Even if there was a first chicken (scientifically, Gallus gallus domesticus) which hatched out of an egg laid by its evolutionary ancestor, which for argument's sake, we may call it XX. The first chicken hatched out of an XX egg, not of a chicken egg.

Uni is so tiring and this is going to be a very tough semester with heavy subjects and everything due in a few weeks. Although the lectures are somewhat interesting, it is very draining and I have so many little assessment tasks to worry about. It's not just the structure of the course which tires me but also sometimes my lecturers. I have some of the most interesting lecturers I've ever had - they're full of personality. There's a loud barrister, a comedienne in her double life and there's one who is often politically (in)correct. I'm really having a lot of fun but it's also very different to what I'm used to so I'm quite intimidated by these large personalities - because I'm the one usually in control and feel in control, the one who is of bigger personality, usually the inappropriate one. On top of that, the bookshop lacks a textbook I need so I'm going to be behind. Also I still have to go out a lot since it is my birthday month and I still work. I guess I did ask for this lifestyle though, I liked busy. I wanted to be an energiser bunny.

Darkness is also your friend - Nokia Lumia 925 Launch Night

We all know that in photography, lighting is your best friend so it was always a problem taking pictures indoors or in low light situations. One thing I hated was going to restaurants and taking pictures of food in low light (cos we love taking pictures of food ok). Thanks heaps to Fuel Communications and Ms Sennnaa for having me at the launch night of the Lumia 925. It's such a sleek and stylish phone with a modern large screen and it's super slim and lightweight. I get to try the phone out for two weeks and I can't get enough of it! None of the photos were edited. Most of the photos that night were taken under extreme low light and no flash. It's an awesome phone for me to use when I go to events and parties!

One of the biggest selling points of this phone is its photo capabilities. It is by far the best camera in low light situations and to prove it, the whole event was hosted in the dark! The performers had glow in the dark paint and there was mostly only black light to show off the paint and one of the centrepieces of the night, a Kaleidoscopic dress by Tess Tavener Hanks who is submitting it for her HSC. Her piece was also showcased at Vivid Sydney. The dress and headpiece weighs over 16 kgs and the model stood there for most of the night showcasing its beauty.
