Little Treasures Market Launch Night

Hi there SydneyCiders ;)

Little Treasures Market launched on 21 July and it's a great place to snap up some super cool fashion pieces. It's amazing to get to know local labels and be in an environment of creatives. Here are just some of the stuff on offer at District 01 (7 Randle Lane, Surry Hills). It's a Sunday market so if you're free you should definitely check it out. The market is run by Margaret from la petite mademoiselle selling very cool and stylish local labels. The market boasts many handmade vintage inspired pieces. And if guys think that it's all for girls, Dear Pluto does menswear!

Check out Little Treasures Market's Facebook page to stay updated on when the markets are on. Even if you can't visit, you should take a look at what the labels have on offer on their website.

I love getting to know designers because every label has a story. These opportunities are much bigger at markets because well, the designers usually man their own stalls. Kee Kee named her label after her grandparents Laurel & Hector and finds very interesting fabric for her label. Pigeon & Weasel are room-mates who make scented soy candles in recycled beer bottles!

LOOKBOOK | King Of Hearts

The King Of Hearts. A King always has a Queen. Wearing 'Happy Queen' by alexandfelix. I love their project of the 13 Queens because although the subjects are so emotionless, they reveal so much character as a reflection of what is around them. The graphics play with a lot of themes I enjoy like symmetry and surrealism. I also think mannequins are cool with everything synthetic against a natural world. So don't worry, be happy. The other Queens of the project are here.

Keeping Up With The KardashLion

A typical day in the holidays is just: make breakfast, eat breakfast, and by the time that's done, make lunch, eat lunch then get ready to go out for dinner. This is the last week of holidays and I want to hermit and pack my room, get ready for uni - even though that might not happen.

5 Trends To Keep A Man Effortlessly Stylish 2013

So we've journeyed through half of 2013 (and a glimpse of what 2014 has to offer), it seems like there's fashion ideas thrown here and there and everywhere. But for menswhere (haha), it is quite safe to bet that these items will continue to be strong for the rest of the year.

Check These Out:

Bomber Jackets
(Look-At-Me)
The structure of this item in menswear supports the main themes of 2013 very well. It is so versatile as a piece that can be extremely casual or layered with shirts for a more structured look. Bombers with large prints are still in and the bolder the better. One of the most stylish additions by Burberry is the metallic bomber.
BURBERRY / DOLCE & GABBANA

Florals
(Darker Paradise)
Flower prints are still blooming. The trend however is shifting focus away from a full and colourful bloom to a darker and more intricate set of florals.
ZARA / Dries Van Noten / TOPMAN

Blue
(Boys)
I love blue and I'm super happy about what has been done with blue. Blue and white, blue and black and an all blue look are excellent choices.
JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN / GUCCI / PRADA / Christopher Kane

Synthetic
(Kendolls)
Futuristic ideals and synthetic materials make a look very polished and perfect. The materials shine and the themes are of the fascination for science and technology. This style can be mixed up with the old or kept fresh with all new. Sleek is menswear chic.
TOPMAN / Christopher Kane / JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN

Loose and Unstructured
(Carefree Sophistication)
As menswear develops, there is more movement away from the traditional rigidities. Unstructured menswear makes a look much more interesting with better texture and with its interactions with the surroundings (wind machine on full capacity please).
DOLCE & GABBANA / Kris Van Assche / Dries Van Noten

Down The Rabbit Hole

Went shooting with Ms Sennnaa yesterday at the same place as last year (here). We just can't get enough of this place, with the twisted branches - such an artistic and mysterious environment. I will use the looks for my LOOKBOOK later but here's a look at the shoot after the jump. I bet if I was good at writing we could make this more editorial ;D

Shooting in winter is great because stylists can play around with layering more and at times during the shoot, it's also freezing... so that's a plus.

LOOKBOOK | I Miss Alice

I Miss Alice is a more classically influenced look. Each piece is an updated and modern take on traditional menswear with the slim cutting Dior Homme shirt and a Two-Way Jacket by Dolce & Gabbana. A fresh metallic coloured bow tie from Salvatore Ferragamo elevates the looks into something very modern. Amongst these, the look is decorated with jewellery from Silver Skull Jewellery by Sofia Fitzpatrick for a more dark and mysterious tone. I love the Bunny Skull Ring, it suits this look so well.

This and other looks are from this post.

Silver Skull Jewellery Bunny Skull Ring

Super special thanks to Silver Skull Jewellery by Sofia Fitzpatrick. Such amazing style by such an inspirational artist. I visited Sofia the other day to get to know more about the range and her artworks. Her works are all of passion and inspiration. Bold rings and accessories scream rock n' roll and each piece is hand-crafted and can be customised to order. She has created rings for James Hetfield (Metallica) and Rick Grossman (Divinyls and Hoodoo Gurus). This Sydney based artist has been published in Skull Style: Skulls in Contemporary Art and Design, noting her as one of the top 100 artists who uses the motif of skulls in her work.

Spring & Blooming - Dries Van Noten SS14 Mens

I've been extremely interested in this Belgian superstar's designs since focusing on menswear. The brand has such an interesting story. I came across this label a few years ago looking at magazines of the runway. The label does not believe in haute couture nor does Dries Van Noten advertise. One of the most important ways he creates interesting pieces is through innovative prints and exquisitely put together looks on the runway. Although this season is more about giving a spin on the florals, it nonetheless is impressive by mixing up the modesty and overtly blossoming nature of floral prints. All the looks are posted here.

Outerwear is always very memorable and the palette chosen by Dries Van Noten is very bohemian which works very well with the flowers. The jackets and blazers work really well with layering. I really love the discrete prints and the panels of florals. The structure of the jackets are also closely fitted to give a very well put together look. The explosion of flowers with an earthy palette makes the looks much more interesting and sophisticated.

Discrete prints and textures work well either in contrast with boastful patterns or with simple blocks. The sweater has a very interesting print and buttons, working well with the shorts in the total look. The large sewn on flower is great, creating texture and pattern. Also, the white shirt is nice, as a move away from a plain white shirt. The round sunglasses here work well with the florals and a very simple loose fitting shirt works well with the modest floral pants. Floral belts are great additions too.

Carrying art - INVERTED COMMAS

Beautiful graphics that are practical? Some of the most interesting and beautiful graphics are available at INVERTED COMMAS on tote bags from Florence, Italy. These are so cool and I love watercolour (or the watercolour/ ink style) illustrations. Watercolour to me is one of the most emotive ways to express. I would really like to see these great prints on more than just tote bags. They're simply amazing. I really like 'Giraffe Boy & Elephant Girl 2.0'. There's so much more on the website and the artworks are all very expressive and quirky. Definitely a stylish and practical addition.
